Course Description: This is an introductory course for informal family carers of people with dementia. It aims to provide participants with knowledge, skills and confidence so that they can better fulfil their care roles. Topics include a mix of theoretical and practical - Dementia and Looking After Yourself, Changing Relationships and Accessing Information, Communication and Staying Active, Responsive Behaviours and Safety at Home, Personal Care and Nutrition and Eating Well and Course Review and Next Steps.

This is a follow on from the Home Based Care - Home Based Education course. It is designed to support informal family carers of people with dementia, who have been caring for some time and who want to prepare for later stage and end of life care. It is designed to provide practical and emotional support to participants. Topics include Introduction to Later Stage Dementia Care, Later Stage Symptoms, Transitions in Later Stage Dementia Care, Emotional Well-Being for the Person with Dementia, Coping and Self-Care, Person-Centred Communication Approaches and Review Reflect and Look Ahead.
